Student, PGDM 2014-16

Some may argue dreams aren't real as they can’t be touched or felt. I feel that the dreams are for real. They are made of thoughts, imaginations and excitements. It was my dream to become good manager with good managerial and leadership skill. When I received the call from International Management Institute (IMI), Bhubaneswar, I was super excited and felt that I have moved one step further toward my dream. Finally it was the day I had been waiting for long. 22nd June 2014, I entered in to the institute to start my PGDM journey.

I had mixed feelings of excitement and nervousness on the first day. Excitement – because I was going start my post-graduation. And nervousness – because I was unfamiliar with the new environment. My batch mates & I underwent a well-planned orientation programme that lasted whole of the first week. In this programme our Director Prof Ramesh Behl explained us the pedagogy at IMI Bhubaneswar and what to expect in the times to come. He also shared his expectation from us – the new batch. I distinctly recall the two most important things he mentioned - “apart from trying to become a good manager, be a good human being” and the other was that “in addition to the specializations we opt for, we should learn about other areas as well”. The series of activities that followed made all of us comfortable with each other and know more about each one of us in the batch. All the faculty & staff were very supportive right from the beginning. Learning with fun is how I got initiated into the campus life.

The seniors have been very friendly and made us quite comfortable. They helped and guided us in each and every moment whenever we asked for. They organized a cultural programme. The purpose behind this as we later understood was that each one of us gets a chance to showcase our respective talent. They also conducted many games such as table tennis, carom, chess, and football. They briefed us about all the various student functional committees like Placement, Cultural, Mess, Admissions, Media & PR committee etc.

So, here I am, in a new place and I have made new friends too. I have thoroughly enjoyed my first week and I am looking forward to what next week and the rest of the year will bring! I feel excited and inspired. I have also learnt about the importance of networking in the industry and I am enjoying working on my profiles and blogs to help me to get good work placements too in the future. I certainly feel that I have made all the right decisions so far and believe that at the end of these two years at IMI Bhubaneswar, I shall come out a winner.
