LONG TERM WEALTH CREATION- POST PANDEMIC CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES .
 
IMI Bhubaneswar organized the annual Finance conclave on the topic of Long Term Wealth Creation: Post Pandemic Challenges and Opportunities on 3rd September, in which 5 speakers from the finance domain attended the conclave through zoom meeting.
 
Mr. Ajit Sanghvi (Governing Board Member , BSE Brokers Forum) spoke on innovative ways to view the market, focusing mostly on how generation z doesn't really invest for the long term. He offered advice on how to build long-term wealth, saying that the best way to maximize future returns is to identify an asset, buy it, and hold onto it. This benefit is achieved through compounding. The eighth wonder is "the miracle of compounding". He used the Island of Manhattan as an example, which the Dutch purchased for about $26 and whose worth has increased over time. He adhered to John Templeton's four investment principles: 1) Invest; avoid gambling 2) Invest on quality and value. 3) Invest when times are rough 4) Invest for the highest total return possible, and learn from Benjamin Graham's value investing, which determines a common stock's intrinsic worth independently of its market price. The intrinsic value of a stock may be determined and contrasted with its market value utilizing a company's fundamentals including its assets, profits, and dividend pay-outs.
Mr. Kunal Kumar (VP, Innovation and Strategy at Goldman Sachs) discussed the concept of how the power of compounding works in maximizing funds. He gave an overview of the job market and how it’s growing in the work-from-home culture, he also gave some futuristic suggestions to students who are aspiring their career in finance to always have a long-term perspective, stay for a longer time in the market, learn from the past and lastly to keep a close eye on newspapers and media. His last valuable piece of advice to all the students was to invest in equity.
 
Mr. Pushkar Anand (Founder and CEO, Brilliant Capital) expressed his views on the India-China border tension and its repercussions on the trade deficit, and the hike in the price of electronic gadgets which are used in work-from-home. He shared some experience on how to protect the downside when the market is highly volatile. He also explained the uniqueness and importance of equity investment. He lastly ended by precautioning the aspiring finance people by telling them that Finance looks very easy but it’s as difficult as losing weight.
Mr. Kanav Gupta (Manager, Europe Risk Reporting, HSBC) – The speaker delineated long-term health creation and how to invest in the financial market. In addition, he also explained how investment acts as a money multiplier and creates manifold returns. He expounded on the importance of a financial plan and segregated it into long, medium & small term investments. He also discussed mutual funds and how to invest in them. In conclusion, he talked about tthe importance of investment in the life and emphasized the quality of investment which can lead not only to a high rate of return but also consistent and stable YOY earning growth.
Mr. Prince Jain (Senior Manager, Yes Bank) discussed the different types of asset classes for investment and their benefits. He talked about the drivers that lead to the growth in the capital market some of them are an increase in consumer spending, expanding digital landscape, an emerging class of millennial investors, etc. He also took us through the challenges that investors might face in long run, some of them being inflation, hikes in interest rates, etc.
