mental health

Mental health is an essential component of overall well-being. Unfortunately, it is often overlooked or stigmatized, leading to a lack of awareness, and understanding about the importance of mental health. According to the World Health Organization, one in four people worldwide will be affected by mental or neurological disorders at some point in their lives. This is a staggering statistic that highlights the need for mental health education and support in our communities.

Mental health disorders can have a significant impact on an individual's quality of life. They can affect one's ability to work, socialize, and maintain relationships. According to a study by the National Alliance on Mental Illness, people with mental health conditions are more likely to be unemployed or underemployed than those without mental health conditions. Additionally, mental health disorders can also lead to an increased risk of physical health problems. For example, people with depression are at higher risk of developing heart disease.
Despite these statistics, mental health often goes untreated. A report by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration found that only 43% of adults with a mental health condition received treatment in the past year. This is often due to lack of access to mental health services, as well as the societal stigma surrounding mental health.
It is essential that we work together to break this monotonous approach that prevents people from seeking help for their mental health. This can be done by increasing awareness and gaining a deeper understanding of mental health, eliminating the stigma around mental health, and providing helpline numbers for mental wellbeing.

One way to do this is through education. By providing information about mental health and mental health disorders, we can help people understand the importance of mental health and know when to seek help. Additionally, we can also provide support groups and counselling services to those who need it.
Another way to support mental health is by creating a culture of acceptance and understanding. This can be done by encouraging open and honest discussions about mental health and by challenging stereotypes and prejudices.

As a college community, we can play a vital role in promoting mental health by providing support, education, and resources for our students and staff. By working together, we can create a safe and supportive environment for those struggling with mental health issues.
In conclusion, mental health is an essential component of overall well-being, and it is important that we take it seriously. With the right education and support, we can break down the barriers that prevent people from seeking help and create a culture of acceptance and understanding. Let's work together to promote mental health in our college community and we thank our most esteemed Director, Prof. Ramesh Behl to develop a partnership with “Your Dost” , a mental well being counsellor for consulting related to Stress, Anxiety and other Mental health related issues.
