TALK ON MENTAL HEALTH

It’s ok not to be okay”

It’s been 77 years of independence and even after seeing so much as a society we still lack the willingness to show courage and appreciation while discussing mental health issues. Though we don’t get tired of appreciating the role of the brain at any given point of time but when it feels uneasy we never give the support it needs rather we tag it as a shameful talk as if it’s not a part of the body itself. The biggest failure of our society is that we have stigmatized mental and menstrual health more than smoking and drinking which cause no benefit and only harm to the human body and mind.

IMI Bhubaneswar being one of the leading Bschools in India has come up with the initiative to close the gap between our students and a mental health expert which was a much-needed step in the right direction. While having a wonderful conversation with the mental health expert of Amaha, the importance of balance in our lives has been highlighted by her. To keep the positive energy alive throughout the day she suggested that we should start the day on a positive note irrespective of how the previous day has been like. It includes starting our day with a healthy self-care routine whether that’s yoga, stretching or some kind of meditation followed by a healthy breakfast on time. According to her, staying in touch with the outside world by pursuing our hobbies and also giving our family some time instead of losing ourselves in social media and scrolling through the reels is one of the most important aspects of leading a healthy and balanced life.

She also mentioned that cutting out the negative noise and a thousand unnecessary opinions would help us to think positively. Lastly, she put pressure on us being able to listen to our instincts and inner voice at every stage which should be the mantra of life.
